In 2021 Russell decided to create an opportunity for two of his grand daughters to learn about and experience the process of writing, singing and recording songs. Isabella and Alexandra, 11 and 9 at the time, decided they would call themselves The Wonder Melons.

The music of the Wonder Melons is upbeat and fun. Scooter Girl celebrates girls and in a playful way encourages them to express themselves. Bilby Bop is a light hearted, humorous ditty and You Are Wonderful is a song that intends to empower girls, gives them a voice and acknowledges their wonderful place in the world.
